Nigel Benn’s brother bashed his neighbor last night for calling him a niggler. Danny Benn, 54, lost his cool with 36 year old John Talliday, after Talliday in a drunken state, accused Benn of stealing his wallet.
The pair who visit each other from time, were drinking and socializing in the garden of Benn’s 260, 000 house on the outskirts of Southend on Sea in Essex, when the misunderstanding that got out of hand took place. Benn has just sold his house about a week ago, and is waiting for the three month process to receive full payments from the buyer.
He is said to have been in very good spirits since the sale and has been relaxing with friends and family.
A mutual friend of the pair who was present unwittingly tipped the eye of media.com about the fracas last night after we were made to wait outside for ten minutes for an arranged appointment with Benn to begin the implementation of his previously expressed wish to have a voice on boxing. We were here to give him a platform to have his voice heard, but just missed the drama.
Benn, a former amateur boxer, first appeared in the public domain on this site a few months ago and told how he introduced his brother, Nigel to boxing whilst he himself was an amateur boxer.
His amateur Career came to an end after he was attacked by West ham football fans when working as a doorman in Ilford, Essex three decades ago. He told the eye of media.com in an April interview that he wanted to have a voice in boxing.
And last night, he delivered a series of heavy blows to the eyes of 6ft 5 inch Talliday, who suffered a swollen black eye in the process. their mutual friend split the fight up and the police were called to the scene.
LOST WALLET
Their mutual friend, known as spikes, told the eye of media.com We were all relaxing and having a good time when Talliday could not find his wallet. He asked us to empty our pockets and I did, but Danny took offence to being made a suspect.
Talliday then called him a thief and a fxxxing black nigger. Danny lost it and went for him, but Tallidays reflexes were too slow as he was intoxicated. He said he had 200 pounds in the wallet, so was obviously upset.
He should not have used that word, but he was intoxicated, Spikes said. When the police came he was not prepared to press charges because they are friends, he said.
INHERITANCE
Talliday apparently received an inheritance of over a 100, 000 pounds this year from his late grandfather, and doesn’t work at all, preferring to drink often in the day. Talliday often thinks people are using him or want to use him, but Danny pays his own way, Spikes said.
SEARCH
A careful body search by police led to the purse being found in Tallidays side trouser pocket, forcing an embarrassing apology from him. But this was after he had called Benn a nigger once more in the presence of police.
Danny Initially declined to give his version of events, but later echoed the account given by Spikes once he knew we were definitely going to tell
the story.
Asked how he felt being called a nigger, he said its no big deal, it happens everyday somewhere. He got what he deserves, so it’s old news now. Our original purpose for visiting Benn had to be postponed. No member of his family was present during the bust up.
