MOHAMMED ALI WILL BE GREATLY MISSED

MOHAMMED ALI WILL BE GREATLY MISSED

By GABRIEL PRINCEWILL

Mohammed Ali received a farewell fitting of a king on Friday. The powerful eulogies by his family members and distinguished guests were a reflection of the remarkable impact he had on the world.

Described by former U.S president, Bill Clinton, as a once in a life time individual, Ali truly was a rarity with a touch of sporting brilliance and unique charisma.  His overall conquests in the ring allied to his great humour and lyrical prowess cannot be matched, let alone surpassed.

SHOWMANSHIP

An entertaining showman with the shining attributes of good looks and a captivating presence, Ali was undoubtedly a man born for the unique role he played in history. His poetic genius and predictive accuracy in terms of the precise fate he frequently foretold was awaiting his opponents, made him a wonder to behold.

Many  boxers have tried to emulate Ali in their conduct, but simply can’t replicate the package of  the magical genius that made him  simply the greatest. His special contribution to the sport will be greatly missed.

COOL AND HANDSOME

My mother told me years ago how women gravitated to both Ali and boxing in numbers because he was such a cool, handsome,  and engaging human being. She stayed up nights to watch alot of his fights,   despite not liking boxing.

CRUEL

The three years he served for refusing to take part in the Vietnam war was most cruel of the establishment at the time.  However, in coming back and achieving the world heavyweight title unjustly taken from him, he affirmed the depth of the greatness invested in him.

Yet, his greater than fiction life story is saddened by the fact he endured a tough battle with Parkinsons disease for over three decades. This energetic larger than life human being was robbed of the vitality that made him so enthralling to watch and listen to. Still, he remained the greatest.

Like his daughter poignantly stated during her moving eulogy, his legacy will go on forever.  A true gem of his generation, may his soul live forever. This special man will be greatly missed.
