Spice Girls mark 30 years of Girl Power with huge singles collection featuring unreleased recordings

The amazing  Spice Girls are marking 30 years of “Girl Power” with an extensive new singles collection that brings together three decades of the group’s music, including rare remixes, complete B-sides and previously unreleased recordings.

The Singles Collection will be released on 6 November, exactly three decades after the arrival of the group’s debut album Spice, the record that transformed Victoria Beckham, Geri Horner, Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Melanie B into one of the biggest pop acts of the 1990s.

The collection will span the group’s singles from their era-defining debut Wannabe through to Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) and will be released in two highly collectable physical formats: a 14-CD box set and a set of 14 individually coloured seven-inch vinyl singles.

Designed around the group’s distinctive fashion-led identity, both editions come in handbag-inspired packaging finished in white holographic gloss and matte black foil, turning the anniversary release into as much a collector’s item as a music retrospective.

The 14-CD edition is the more comprehensive of the two, containing 160 tracks across 14 discs. Alongside the original singles, the set includes complete B-sides, rare remixes and dedicated discs devoted to Step To Me and Tell Me Why.

The collection will also give fans access to four previously unreleased demos, including Do You Think About Me, described as one of the earliest recordings made by the group. The previously unheard material gives the anniversary project particular significance, offering a glimpse into the Spice Girls before their global breakthrough.

The vinyl edition takes a more streamlined approach, featuring 14 individually coloured seven-inch records. Each recreates the original single release and pairs it with its lead B-side, while Step To Me and Tell Me Why are given dedicated bonus discs. Two previously unreleased recordings will also appear on the vinyl collection, again including Do You Think About Me.

For long-standing fans, the inclusion of Step To Me is likely to be one of the collection’s most nostalgic features. The song was originally released as part of the Spice Girls’ hugely successful 1997 Pepsi campaign rather than through a conventional retail single release. Fans famously had to collect pink ring pulls from Pepsi products to obtain the CD, making the track an unusual and highly sought-after part of the group’s catalogue.

The collection also finally gives Tell Me Why its long-awaited moment as a formal single release. The song was originally intended to become the third single from the group’s 2000 album Forever, but those plans were ultimately abandoned. More than 26 years later, the track is being revisited as part of the anniversary project.

The release comes at a particularly significant point in the group’s history. The Spice Girls emerged in 1996 with Wannabe, rapidly becoming a defining force in British pop culture and helping establish a new brand of female pop stardom built around individual personalities, friendship and the slogan of “Girl Power”.

Their debut album Spice went on to become a global phenomenon, while the group’s singles — including Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There, 2 Become 1, Spice Up Your Life and Viva Forever — became staples of 1990s popular culture. Although the original line-up’s recording career was relatively short-lived, the group’s influence has endured across music, fashion and popular culture.

The 30th anniversary collection has been assembled with that legacy firmly in mind. Both physical editions will contain a limited-edition numbering card, five collectible art cards and an exclusive Spice Girls 30th anniversary acrylic charm.

Fans will also receive a commemorative booklet featuring new messages from all five members. The vinyl edition comes with a 28-page booklet, while the CD version contains an expanded 32-page edition.

The decision to include new contributions from Beckham, Horner, Melanie C, Bunton and Melanie B gives the release an additional sense of occasion, particularly given the continuing public fascination with the group’s history and the individual careers of its five members.

While streaming has transformed how much of today’s music is consumed, The Singles Collection is deliberately rooted in the physical formats that helped define the Spice Girls’ original era. The coloured seven-inch records recreate the visual identity of the group’s singles, while the expansive CD collection is aimed squarely at fans interested in the deeper corners of the catalogue.

For collectors, the unreleased demos and rare remixes may ultimately prove as significant as the familiar hits. For more casual listeners, meanwhile, the collection offers a chronological journey through the singles that turned five young British women into an international pop phenomenon.

Three decades after Spice first introduced the world to the group, The Singles Collection is therefore more than a greatest-hits package. It is a celebration of the singles, B-sides, experiments and unreleased material that chart the extraordinary rise of the Spice Girls — and a reminder that, 30 years on, Girl Power remains one of the most recognisable cultural forces of modern British pop.
