Officers in America have killed a helpless black man whilst pinned down, sparking protests in America.
A shocking video in which an Afro American was shot dead by police whilst pinned to the ground has sparked protests in America.
Baton Rouge officers said a man called police saying someone selling CD’s had pointed a gun at him. When officers arrived at the scene, then man was tasered by one officer and tackled by the other who pinned him down, before he was shot 4-6 times by police.
The killing in Louisiana has caused outrage in America, and sparked protests in Louisiana. Banners with the words “black lives matter, no justice no peace”, were carried around by angry protesters in the city.
That the dead man possessed a gun looks bad on him. However, in the absence of any direct threat to the police by the man, the killing was unnecessary. The protest in Louisiana, America, is therefore a reflection of community anger.
American police have for years been dogged with allegations of extreme racism, with many black lives lost in the hands of police. Relations between police and the black community has always been quite tense.
America is quite polarized, particularly between the educated whites and uneducated blacks. Running’s between the latter and the police often revolve around drugs or crime related incidences.
The circumstances that bring their path together cannot by any stretch of imagination justify an unlawful killing. Nonetheless, it is worth pointing out that educated blacks leading a responsible life in America, are very unlikely to encounter this sort of disastrous running’s with the police.
With this shocking graphic video, an investigation will almost certainly follow. American police rarely ever get convicted for murder in these kind of circumstances, because the law affords them benefit of the doubt.
An officer must show reasonable cause for killing; the most admissible cause being feeling endangerment to life. Critics say police all too easily can conjure an excuse and collude with their colleagues to protect their interest.
