Killings of Cops in America Worsens Community Relations

By Aaron Miller

Killings of cops in Baton Rouge today are worrying for community relations.

The shootings  which took place at Air Harmond Highway near old High Harmond Way, are believed to be a response to reckless killings of black people by police officers in Baton Rouge and Minnesota in the last week.

The killer today is reported to have opened fire indiscriminately at the officers when they attended  to a call reporting a man walking suspiciously with an air rifle.

Upon the arrival of police, the man is said to have begun shooting at them, killing 3officers in the process. It appears the man was waiting to kill officers in a copy cat style of the killings of police in Dallas last week.

Some of our sources were informed of a long running gun battle in the area before police arrived, but those reports have not been corroborated. Community relations between the police and the Afro American black community is at an all time low.

The latest killings were certainly executed as a form of further vengeance against the police for the shocking number of needless killings of black people in America.

However, vengeance style killings like this are never just. The dead victims of such vengeance are not the same perpetrators of the original police murders.

Hence the reason the justice system must always fulfil its responsibility of applying the law correctly to prevent a state of affairs.where some individuals may become so disaffected as to take the law into their own hands.

All these killings do is send a message of revenge, which nevertheless should be addressed appropriately by the police authorities.

Tensions have been high in America, over the merciless killings of two black men- one in Baton Rouge, and the other in Minnesota, within 24 hours of each other.

However, after last weeks murder of five officers in Dallas, the tension between police officers and the black community should have eased off and allowed some time to heal.

Innocent lives were  lost on both sides, and any appetite for some kind of vengeance had been exacted for that week at least, which is where it should have been left.

Exacerbating the issue by intensifying the bitter relations between the black community and the police is not helpful. Heightened emotions need to be kept in check to ensure matters don’t escalate out of control.
