Rap’s egomaniac that is “Kanye West” has sourly admitted that he needs
to up his game after upstart rival young buck, Kendrick Lamar, stole
his hip-hop glory. 27-year-old Lemar from Compton released his highly
anticipated second album on Monday so extravagantly titled “To Pimp a
Butterfly”.
The star deals with real life topics in his new LP, things most people
wouldn’t dare talk about. His raps touch on violence, race,
police power and white supremacy in America. This is undoubtedly the most
important release of the year. “It’s refreshing to hear a rapper speak
about real things for once” a fan tweeted, which continued “One who
wants to change the world is better to listen to then one who wants
to corrupt it” . We at The eye of Media, delightfully agree. West, whose scheduled presence at this years Glastonbury festival has led to a petition of over 90,000 fans opposing his inclusion in the popular annual festival, certainly needs to step up his game.
WEST IS THREATENED
The pair both stimulate opinions and keep us waiting for material we so desperately want to hear. Here is why
Kendrick is the new king and Kanye is outdated.
Kendrick’s Butterfly album is “full of strength and courage and honesty”, as well as
“growth and acknowledgment and denial” – according to Kendrick himself, who
is on the ball and on the money. Now Kanye is notorious for
dismissing music rivals he feels aren’t worthy to compete with his
superiority but this one he can’t dismiss so easily. The pair are acquaintances as they previously toured together when Lamar, who at that time won seven Grammy nominations for his 2012 debut album “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City”, because such a great first album the young man got to support 37-year-old West, which now looks like he gave him that
true helping hand and gathering of fans who are now, so slyly preferring to buy Kendrick’s new material and not Kanye’s.
It is like Kendrick gave West his own rope to hang himself with Kim Kardashians
Husband did say something nice about Lemar “Kendrick is an
inspiration,” he tweeted. “Thank you for the vibrations and the
spirit. Your meaning, message and execution are gifts to the world.”
But it does bode well to speak nicely of him, what good could come
from dissing the most popular man in the world right now? Nothing.
Lamar’s appearance at the Wireless Festival this year in Finsbury
Park, London, is set to be the most eagerly awaited live performance
of the summer and we can’t wait, whilst Kanye’s headline at
Glastonbury should be all the rage the cocky rapper has managed to
rustle up a 95 thousand signature petition against him. OUCH.
LET’S BREAK RECORDS
Kendrick knows how to create a banger and he sure
knows how to break records. Maybe Butterfly is exactly radio friendly!
But it is home and headphone friendly. It absolutely blew Spotify’s
single-day global-streaming record out of the water with an
astonishing 9.6 million streams. By this weekend the album, which is
on course to top the UK chart today, had racked up more than 37
million streams. The top 50 most streamed tracks worldwide last week
included 10 from the album. “Shake it off” singer Taylor Swift and
father-to-be Justin Timberlake have both praised Butterfly releases as
it appeared on iTunes and Spotify more than a week early due to a
record company error, so the rapper’s manager said. Also music mogul
“Happy” singer Pharrell Williams has deemed Lamar overly influential
like Bob Dylan. So, it looks like it is time for Kanye to move over, as there is a new King in town!
