Comedian and activist, Russell Brand had to be held back in the VIP area on Parliament Square when angry protesters vented their anger against him last Saturday. The outspoken comedian had attended the rally to join protesters to protest against austerity in relation to government budget cuts against benefits. Brand was slated for his political stance in favour of a revolution against modern day capitalism., and confronted by angry yobs who uttered expletives at Brand, and also tried to prevent the former big brother television presenter from going on stage. ”I hate you, one protester shouted, you should not be on stage here. You have no place here, you are disgusting”. One woman called him an upper class maniac and did not hide her distaste for the comedian.
Brand is seen sprinting away through a back stage before being whisked away by a waiting vehicle. He must have felt his safety was endangered, though it would have been foolish for anyone to expect to escape detection in the event of actually attacking the straight talking funny man who has no limits on who he criticises through comedy. The original Essex boy whose fame have catapulted him to heights of influence beyond the wildest dreams of most people have earned him several millions, and he has also set up a youtube channel called trews with over 2 million viewers. His political outlook is a matter of opinion, and within his civil and legal rights of this country. However, there are those he see Brand and having the potential to create an uprising, and clamp down on persistent wealth inequalities that have been an ingrained part of the advanced world. The recovered heroine addict who is reasonably intelligent and well educated is an enigma of sorts, with a daring touch to his ideologies. He has never held back on speaking his mind on anything under the Sun, no matter how sensitive or controversial.
His recent participation in the protests of Saturday drew supporters and admirers, many of who hung around for selfies and autographs, but there were clearly a group who would have rather seen him hurt than given speeches. Brand has had plenty of opportunities in the acting and film industry, and has even met the Queen before. Brand rose to fame when he presented the spin off big brother for channel 4, and has participated in comedy films, and a number of drama showcases.
