Chelsea made their critics ”look stupid”, according to Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho who is facing disciplinary action by the Football Association after being sent to the stands at half-time of Saturday’s loss at Upton Park. Mourinho’s comments come following the team’s penalty shoot out defeat after a 1-1 draw. It was the first time the maligned Chelsea boss would face the press since the weekend. ”What the players did today was face the people that write and say you are stupid”, said the 52 year old Portuguese manager. ”You think the players didn’t give everything to win the game?’ It is really sad’, he said.
The former champions were beaten 5-4 on penalties in the fourth-round tie after forcing extra-time through Loic Remy’s injury-time equaliser. Chelsea had 59% possession and 24 attempts at goal, but this was insufficient to secure an outright victory and led to their 5th Premiere league defeat in 10 matches- not an impressive reading for a usual elite team.
Mourinho insisted that any claims that his players have been affected by his behaviour show a “lack of respect” to his team. “For me it would be a fantastic situation if the players are against me, I can say, you don’t have results because the players are against me,” he said.
“What some people write and say is really bad for the players. Most of the people that do that used to be players.
“I think they think my players are like them when they were players. Maybe they were able to do.
Mourinho may be a veteran in the football world, but he sure lacks in the area of wisdom. How he can call critics stupid for criticizing a team struggling to do well is beyond reason. Let’s not forget that this is the same man who criticized their
doctor heavily not long ago when she came on the pitch at the referee’s orders. If anyone is behaving stupid, it is Mourinho himself, because no sensible manager calls the press stupid on the silly and weak grounds that he has. It is no wonder he is facing disciplinary action. Football managers, and indeed agents acting in any capacity, really ought to have the wisdom and intelligence in addressing situations and criticism correctly. It is called maturity, and Mourinho is struggling with this in the same way as his team is struggling to do as well as they once did. He has never been one to construct his sentences intelligently, and hence is the one acting stupid.
