An inquest at Chelmsford Coronor’s Court yesterday heard that a young man killed himself five days before his baby girl was born because he could not handle the stress of looking after her as well as his child from another relationship.
27 year old Kieron Callaghan, hanged himself in his garden on July 28,20015. His daughter was born on the 2nd of August. five days before his baby girl was born. A friend of the family told eye of media ” he had been working really hard and trying to save up a deposit for a home. He was under a lot of pressure, especially as he had another kid on the way”.
The young man had only recently split from the mother of his child and was expecting a child for his new partner. He would have been expected to cater for both children as is customarily expected of responsible parents, but the additional challenge of affording a home proved too much for him to bare. Having children for different partners often pose problems of their own, especially where a current or ex partner wants to draw a line between the two families. The deceased man leaves behind a mother, sister, nephew, and niece.
Police confirmed their were no suspicious circumstances and toxicology tests revealed he may have had cannabis in his system, and their were traces of alcohol in his system. Callaghan’s father blames unaffordable housing for his son’s death, and plans to campaign for cheaper rent for houses.
