AWARDS AND PERFORMANCES:

The brits kicked off last night with an envious performance from the country turned bad girl Taylor Swift. It’s safe to say that Kanye West was well away from the stage, never living down his uninvited interruption when he so abruptly stormed onto stage during Taylors win back in 2009. Taylor Swift grabbed the award for “The best international female artist” and she collected her award with no Kanye’s. Ed Sheeran was the first artist to receive a Brit Award last night for “The best male artist”. The “You don’t need me” singer has broken history this year by being the first male to sell out three nights at Wembley in a row, as a solo artist with NO BAND. No artist has done that ever, in the history of sell outs since concerts began, so well done to Mr Sheeran. Rita Ora had a massive wardrobe malfunction with her glittering dress leaving us all with a glimpse of her derrière and Lord of the Rings stud Orlando Bloom couldn’t help but point it out during their nominee read out. “Keep your eyes up” Ora splurged.

Paloma Faith stole a Brit finally after years of losing out to her entitlement. She took the time to give her acceptance speech and lapped it up. Supplying information that she got arrested twice in Hackney, she was without doubt funny and tearful to watch. Shouting out to all the underdogs in the world and explaining how she’d been dropped and how no one wanted to sign her for many years. The “Hurt like this” welsh songstress performed in a dark shadowing dress with an array of contemporary dancer’s kinesing behind her whilst rain poured downed on the emotional red head.

Sam Smith grabbed a Brit presented to him by his close friend Kim Kardashian to add to his fire place full of Grammys. That wasn’t that alone award he collected that night, being one of three. Kim was stunning in a laced black dress showing more skin then her average photo shoot which she then went onto introduce her Husband to the stage who performed with nothing less than flame throwers, literally!! Taylor was spotted in the crowd skanking out to his grimey new beat. The show did hit some technical errors when the audio fell short a few times during Kanye’s performance, leaving us unsure if the shortage was due to foul language or simply bad rehearsals. Pharrell Williams’s former N.E.R.D frontman bagged himself a pink Brit for “Best international male artist” given to him by the hottest model on the block Miss Cara Delavigne.
George Ezra took to the stage with his smash hit “Budapest” he lit up the stage with his name in 6 foot lights and a vocal performance that sounds exactly the mirror image of the record itself. Another male vocalist who is undoubtedly taking over the charts with his winning guitar and raspy chords. Keep your eye out for him this year and the years to come, his Bastille sound has us all talking. One Direction, The former soloist X-Factor rejects collected the award for the Best International Video, Simon Cowell snatched the pink bar on their behalf.

MADONNA RETURNS:

The rest of the night felt like we were waiting on Madonna more than anything else. The queen hadn’t stomped the stage of the Brits for more than two decades. Madonna, whose career spans over 30 years, performed her new hit single. Earlier on during rehearsals, the “Like a virgin” and “Material Girl” Italian songstress was out of breathe and was seen to be looking rather unwell whilst taking a breather from rehearsals. The 56 year old has finally made her comeback after a few years rest, taking that time to spend with her kids. Her entrance was nothing short of flashing and energetic until a major stage glitch occurred. During the first verse Madonna Struggled to untie her 100 foot robe, the dancers and stage crew were unaware of the altercations and went onto pull the robe taking the singer with them. She fell backwards all the way down the stairs, leaving her dancers in a focused but yet obvious panic as they fumbled with untying her as soon as possible, the biggest female artist of all time carried on like any true performer does and no doubt she killed it thereafter.

THE DESIGN: The award this year was a vision of beauty, the new accolade has been revamped and decoratively designed by British Artist Tracey Emin. One word for the Statue is “Wow” and by far the nicest award design we’ve seen to date. The light Pink Trophy definitely had a Rosetta stone feel to it, giving that the designer had the inspiration in mind. Each award had scriptures scribbled around the model with the message “Congratulations on your talent in your life. On everything you give to others. Thank You”. To design such a familiar trophy is nothing shorter than a privilege and there isn’t one designers whom would decline such an opportunity. Considering that this is only the fifth time that a top British designer has been given the chance to makeover the accolade. Tracey said: “You want to do it really well. You don’t just want to decorate it, you want to make something that is really Tracey-ish, that is special for the people receiving it.”
Her design will most truly make her the most sort after in the fashion and textile industry and she deserves every bit of it.
Well done to all the winners and performers. Hard luck to Madonna, but at least she dusted herself off and tried again.
