BY CHEMELLE RICE
Its arrived, my favourite time of the year is now! All the award ceremonies start and we get to watch who is worthy of one and who steals the show with their killer performances. The nominees this year in each and every category are amazing and may i say its truely a tough call this year. I can not call it as music last year was truly evolutionary. It was the best year we have had in almost a decade.
If you want a say in who bags the Record of the Year Grammy then i suggest you get your votes in now as the show is just over a week away. The question is can you pick between Iggy Azalea ft Charlie Xcx – Fancy, Beyonce ft Jay Z – Drunk in love, Sia – Chandelier, Taylor Swift – Shake it off, Sam Smith – Stay with me (Darkchild version) and the new and amazing one to watch Meghan Trainor who took over our souls with her debuting number 1 single “All about that bass”. We all know i love Bey but even Taylor Swift had me dancing about my living room to that song of hers. Mega catchy is an understatement. Its like she has changed into a good girl gone bad. Meghan Trainor has introduced us to a whole new genre of pop music she likes to call “Bubblegum” and i like it. We all do. Could she sneak the Grammy award. She could, she could.
They are keeping a lot of Performances under wraps this year although it has recently come to light this week that the legendary Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga will be taking to the Grammies stage. The pair have become so close the past year after their album release. The pair will be singing Cheek 2 Cheek which is also the title of their album collaboration. Cheek 2 Cheek is also in the line up for the Best Traditional Pop Album.
Gaga took to twitter on Tuesday chirping “I’m humbled to be nominated and performing @ the Grammys with an incredible man”, how smitten is she?… Awwwwwwwwww. She also posted a lovely picture of the pair together performing. The 87 year old will grace us with his presence on Feb 8th live on stage. Speaking of legends thee one and only Stevie Wonder has been announced to be performing at the Grammys too. Each year we have a special performance roughly 15 minutes long and this year Mr Wonder has bagged himself the special spot. A number of stars will be joining him but who that is we do not know yet. We can not wait.
It seems to be the Girls year this year as they are dominating the categories completely. Who run the world??? GIRLS!!! In The Best New Artist Nominations we have a toss up between Iggy Azalea, Brandy Clarke, Bastille, Haim and Sam Smith… Very difficult. Sam may just sneak the win over our Australian chica Iggy Azalea although the group Bastille was on repeat in my music player last year. I couldn’t get enough of their track “Pompeii”. Haim took us back to the 70’s feel track “if i could change your mind”, made us all want to get mullets again. NOT.
Beyoncé and Jay Z “Drunk in love”, Usher “Good Kisser” and Chris Brown “New Flame” are up for two Grammies each for THE BEST RNB PERFORMANCE and THE BEST RNB SONG. Jhené aiko the biggest new comer in my eyes is also in for the chance to bag her very first Grammy within the BEST RNB SONG category with her legendary song “The Worst”. I don’t think this category could get any tougher. Each song deserves to be in there.
The fiery orange haired Hayley Williams is in the Rock category with her band Paramore for the Best Rock Song with “Ain’t it fun”. This was hands down my favourite song in 2014. So happy and free flowing. Good luck to Paramore.
This year is a colossal Grammys to say the least.
The 57th Grammy awards air on Sunday 8th February at 8pm live in America. Sit tight for a few days for it to air in the UK or if you cant wait then you can catch it streaming live on the internet. Enjoy!
