Nigel Benn’s brother has lambasted Chris Eubank senior for his criticism levied against Nigel Benn for not being there to support his son, Connor Benn.
Chris Eubank senior had made the criticism at last week’s press conference before his son and Conor Benn both enjoyed emphatic knock out victories at the 02 last Saturday. Eubank had said he was looking out for Conor, before Conor fought back by insisting that the former world middleweight boxing champion refrained from personal attacks against his dad.
However, Conor’s Uncle, Danny Benn, blasted Eubank senior for the comments after Conor battered his opponent in Saturday night.
Nigel Benn told the eye of media.com ” I only heard about what happened yesterday. You know, Eubank really needs to mind his own business. He blew all his money and is obviously so deep in his sons career so he can get some money from his son’s wages. With his so called intelligence, he blew his money foolishly without thinking, his wife couldn’t even claim any money from him during their divorce proceedings”, he said.
Nigel didn’t blow his money foolishly like that. I can tell you that Nigel Benn is still a multi millionaire till this day. He has tonnes of cash and investments here and there. Nigel will never need to beg anyone for money, ever. Nigel doesn’t need to be hovering around his son the way Chris Eubank junior does because Conor is a man, a confident young man. We really don’t need Eubank trying to humiliate Conor like this. Eubank needs to look after his own son and take his eyes away from Conor, Benn said angrily.
Conor is an independent man who has a trainer and promoter. He has his own flat, his own car, and two iron fists. What does he need his father breathing down his neck for?
The eye of media.com heard that Nigel took his son for sparring in a number of gyms, including ASPIRE gym in Rayleigh, Essex, in the week leading up to his fight.
“Trust me, Nigel loves his child and has given him all the support he needs up till now. I love Conor, he is my blood. Nigel won’t bother to respond to Chris because he has asked him to sign a block buster third fight with him, but he is messing around talking rubbish instead”.
He may even be embarrassing his own son in the process. Speaking of plans for him to face unbeaten middleweight king, Gennady Golovkin, Benn was scathing of Chris Eubank’s snr, and the chances of his son against unbeaten Golovkin, who is being avoided by many contenders in his division.
”Golovkin will deal with that boy, mark my words. He hits like a mule boy, Eubank jnr will not cope with him. Eubank junior can fight, but you will notice that he doesn’t have a very big punch. His father should know this, but money talks louder than risks sometimes”, he stated.
There is no evidence to categorically prove that Eubank senior is motivated by money by being around his son. Like any father, he will have his son’s interest at heart. Notwithstanding, it is not inconceivable that if Eubank senior is hard up now, he may look to his son for financial assistance from time to time. This does not necessarily mean he will obtain size able enough funds from his son, unless he has agreed a percentage from his own son for his supporting role. Benn is cynical though, and suspects Eubank’s motives. ” He is in for the money, everyone knows he has blown his money, it’s old hat, everyone knows it”.
Eubank senior’s ex wife recently told a national paper how Eubank blew his £10m fortune on a high life of expensive cars, Saville suits, specially made shirts, a private barber he put on a £250 weekly wage. She claimed to have left the well known former world champion because of an alleged lifestyle of cheating, and his lavish lifestyle. However, Chris Eubank earned £200,000 from his participation in the reality show ”I’m a celebrity get me out of here”. Without seeing his bank balance , it is impossible to say with any degree of certainty what the financial circumstances of Chris Eubank senior currently is.
The one thing we know is how much Chris Eubank’s comments about his view that Nigel Benn was around his son to guide him, has riled the Benn family, or at least, Conor’s uncle.
