A high-profile Conservative Member of Parliament, Katie Lam, who is widely tipped as a future leader of the party, has provoked a major political backlash after suggesting that thousands of legally settled families and individuals should be deported from the United Kingdom.

While those previous announcements focused on illegal arrivals, Ms. Lam has now extended the focus, suggesting the same ruthlessness should be applied to those who obeyed the law.
