FC United of Manchester Rocked with Internal dispute

By Tim Parson

The full board of FC United of Manchester, which is the breakaway club set up by Manchester United supporters following the Glazer family’s takeover at Old Trafford – has offered to resign after calling an EGM to address the problematic issues in the club’s  history.

In a statement, the club called for a recognition of the ”unrest and upset felt by many members” following a spell of internal dispute that embroiled all the board members.

All remaining board members are now poised to stand down permanently, or stand down and seek re-election. Once a new board is elected members will be afforded  the opportunity to vote for a newly formed board, with a fresh mandate to represent the club’s best interests and best serve the club going forward.”

There have been calls for the general manager to stand down following criticisms from  fans that the club have departed from their founding principles, and were not being run as members wanted.

FC United  have been elevated in the National League North as they aspire to become the third Manchester club in the top four divisions.

However, their  current rise up the ranks is being marred by the upheavals currently rocking the club.  A key member of the board, Alison Watt, resigned at the same time as Brown, with Richard Searle also due to stand down.

The club  has admitted that a general meeting  abandoned on Sunday arose due to a number of issues relating to the venue, and  that the registration of proxies and postal ballots  were unsatisfactory and fell below the standards that members expect. In a press statement, the board said:

“The board apologises to all those members who attended Sunday’s meeting, many of whom had travelled long distances, for the evident shortcomings experienced and shares their sense of frustration at the inability to conduct the meeting as planned.”

The statement added: “Board members recognize the unrest and upset felt by many members currently and are collectively committed to ensuring that the co-owners of FC United of Manchester can find a way through the challenges we face at this stage of our history.”
