Armed police will patrol the streets of London, following a spate of killings in the capital. There have already been 122 killings arising from gang like killings since January 2016, and there are still six months to go until the end of the year.
The concerted unit named Scola, will spread across 6 boroughs, namely, Hackney, Lambeth, Brent, Tower Hamlets, Southwark, and Newham, in
a bid to assure residents of a safer environment and crack down on gun violence. Armed police patrol on the streets of London may turn out to be a good thing.
Sir Bernard Hayes, the met commissioner, announced that armed police are part of operation viper, launched yesterday. Operation viper will be led by the mets trident force, consisting of a team of 50 officers and detectives from the serious and organised crime unit.
A series of raids targeting criminal’s and drug dealers across the boroughs will take place as part of the operation. armed officers will be allowed to carry out car number plate recognition to crack down on suspects.
London has fast become one of the most dangerous cities for youngsters to grow up, with either a recluse life or
friendship with a handful of school friends, one of the safest options for youths.
In March, this year, Our Teller was shot dead in Church Road, Harlesden, with a high powered gun. In what was believed to be a case of mistaken identity, no police charges have resulted from any of arrests that followed. Since then, there have been at least 6 further killings in the area, in such a short space of time. Armed police patrol on the streets may just calm things down.
