Police In London have renewed their appeal for information after 17-year-old Tanesha Melbourne was shot dead in Tottenham.
Police were called to Chalgrove Road at 9.35pm on Monday following reports of a shooting. The girl has been named named as Tanesha Melbourne. Melbourne had been visiting her boyfriend at the time of the shooting . Forensic officers removed bullets lodged in a wall and a front window of terraced homes in Tottenham, north London. When officers attended the scene along with the London Ambulance Service, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The girl appears to have been caught up in a cross fire between two rival groups, but cops are still investigating whether she had any connection to the group of boys, and who the gang were. So far, inquiries by the detectives have been met by a wall of silence, but they will be doubling their efforts in this murder inquiry which has brought the total number of deaths in London this year to 48 already.
The best efforts of the emergency services was to no avail to the injured girl, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 22.43pm. In a statement issued this evening, the Metropolitan Police said: “At this early stage it is believed that shots were fired from a vehicle into a group of people, hitting the girl.
Extra officers have been mobilised to the wider area the shooting happened, with both uniformed and plain-clothes officers carrying out a range of intelligence-led operations and patrols. Two members from The Eye Of Media.Com are also in the area, trying to gather information about the shooting, but more importantly, the nature of the gang rivalry in the area, by talking to locals. Tottenham, like many parts of London, is known for its gang rivalry involving drugs and post code wars.
“Detectives are working to establish the type of car and how many people were both in the vehicle and within the group shot at. They are keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack.”‘Fearful of repercussions’
Detective Inspector Beverley Kofi of the Homicide and Major Crime Command appealed to anybody who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.You may be fearful of repercussions of speaking to police, or have loyalties that you believe can’t be compromised.
“We are dealing with the fatal shooting of a teenage girl, and would implore you to do the right thing and come forward,” Kofi said.
