Brexit will not happen, according to a prominent Economics professor.
Dr Jo Murkens, an associate professor of law at the London School of Economics, has branded the E.U referendum as a 2-2 draw because 2 of the U.K’s four nations- Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to Remain part of Europe.
The implications of his comments is that Brexit can’t happen because it would break the U.K up.
The legal expert told the Evening Standard: “Brexit campaigners wanted to take the country back, but there will be no Country left if we leave the E.U.
I see no way in which we can leave the E.U and survive. I can see no prime minister who would want to preside over the break up of the United Kingdom.
U.K prime minister officially resigned after being defeated in last week’s E.U referendum, but fell short of activating Article 50, in order to officially the two year divorce process required to actually officially make Brexit legitimate.
Scotland have already pledged to hold a referendum to leave Britain and stay in the E.U, after Scottish prime minister confirmed that an independence referendum is now on the table.
The results of U.K’s E.U referendum is not legally binding, and as such Brexit may not actually happen. This news comes as a blow to all Brexit supporters, a number of whom had expressed skepticism that the results of an E.U referendum will not actually be implemented.
Their skepticism was baseless, because it could not be predicted that Scotland and Ireland would vote to stay in the E.U. In the light of the prominent professors insight, it seems unlikely that last Brexit will actually happen to honor the results of last week’s referendum.
Unless E.U leaders turn down Scotland’s efforts to join the E.U and break away from the E.U.
