The Metropolitan police are offering a reward of up to £2,000 for information leading to the recovery of firearms , together with the arrest and prosecution of those in criminal possession of the firearms
The offer comes as part of the crackdown on violence in the capital that has led to the wasteful lives of a lot of young people.
Our officers will have all the power to tackle gun men and those that supply them, them, the met commissioner said yesterday. If you know someone who has access to a gun or who supplies others, please tell us either where the gun is or who has them, he said.
The offer will likely see rival gangs turn on their enemies and shop them in an attempt to gain their territory without fearsome opposition.
£2000 is always going to be useful money to novice drug dealers, who will probably break their Street code of grassing to have one up on them.
There will be other weak links too. The 2000 pounds offer shows just how serious the gun crime problem has become. Families have been put in agony over thoughtless and callous people, though there are victims of gun crime who provoked the situation with the wrong type of people.
However, possessing a gun without a license is most dangerous when in the hands of irresponsible criminals. Many see it as a source of power and control, but it also has the deadly element of ending life prematurely. Street thugs with guns always know they can use it to intimidate people, or kill, if they feel driven enough to do it.
The 2000 pounds offer will hopefully act as a deterrent in preventing more guns from coming on the streets and putting those who pose a danger to society behind bars.
