X factor is facing is facing allegations that the show is fixed , after an act believed to have flopped, was kept on the show.
Several fans of the show complained on Twitter after Sunday night’s show to express their shock that singer Slavko made it through to the judges’ houses stage of the ITV contest.
Slavko, who was selected by judge Nicole Scherzinger for the Overs category alongside others like Talia Dean, Kevin Davy White, Berget Lewis, is not highly rated by a lot of viewers. The fact he remains in the show is evidence for cynics that the show is fixed , rather than upholding the level of integrity expected of a widely watched programme.
Skeptics claim that Slavko was deliberately kept in the contest to secure ratings because he is a controversial act. Others claim speculated that judge Nicole was instructed by show bosses to take Slavko through to judges’ houses with her.
X factor is one of the most popular television programmes because of the hotly contested singing competition and the drama that often accompanies judges decisions to keep or drop various acts. However, it does the show a great disservice when members of the public have good reason to believe that singers with inferior talent or performances are being given preference over more talented and better performers. It has also been recently revealed that Anthony Russell will be replaced by Sam Black, despite Black failing to make it to the six claim challenge. Again, this kind of discrepancy in the programme questions the dignity and integrity of programme makers, who must do all in their power to avoid giving the impression that the show is a sham worthy of reprimand.
X factor has built is reputation on its entertainment value, but may begin to lose its credibility if the show hosts fail to brush up its standards. With hot shots like Simon Cowell handling the overseeing of the show, there is a huge responsibility to protect its image a manner not sufficiently done yet.
The programme must surely rise to the important challenge if cleaning up its act. Judges have become accustomed to the idea of bringing back singers who have been rejected, just to sooth a crowd that sometimes call for them to be brought back. They shout ”bring him back”, but if the original decision to eliminate a contestant was professional and genuine, judges should really not be backtracking on their judgement.
It makes a mockery of X factor bosses if there is no uniform rule of selecting winners and upholding standards. Judges should not be basing their judgments on the responses of an audience that may be potentially biased towards one contestant or another.
Many youngsters have put in time, years in many cases, for an opportunity to showcase what they believe to be talent on a national stage. The least they and the public deserve is fairness. Contesters whose performances are not up to standard should simply face the music and not expect any leniency or unprofessional favouritism.
If X factor is fixed to any degree, nobody will ever step forward and admit that. It will be unprofessional, deceptive, and illegal. Judges may just be indecisive and willing to adjust their decisions on some occasions to make it entertaining, but once ethics and principles become a legitimate issue, it can ruin the standard of the whole show altogether.
