World’s fastest man Usain Bolt is in quarantine at his home in Jamaica after testing positive for COVID-19. The news comes days after he celebrated his 34th birthday party with other sports stars.

Jamaica’s health minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, confirmed Bolt had coronavirus and had been formally notified of the test result.

Interestingly, England and Manchester City footballer Raheem Sterling, who attended a party with the former sprinter in Jamaica on Friday tested negative result after undergoing a test in Jamaica. He can now be named in the England squad for next month’s Nations League fixtures.

Bolt, one of the world’s best ever sprinters with eight Olympic gold medals to his name, revealed he was self-isolating in a video which he posted on his official Instagram and Twitter accounts. The 100m sprint world record holder had said he was quarantining in Kingston as a precaution in an Instagram post.

“Good morning everybody. Just waking up and like everybody, checked social media and saw that social media’s saying I’m confirmed to have Covid-19,” he said.

“I did a test on Saturday, because I have work. I’m trying to be responsible, so I’m gonna stay in and stay here for my friends.

“Also I’m having no symptoms, so I’m going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol on how I should go about quarantining myself from the Ministry of Health.

“Just to be safe, I’ll quarantine myself and just take it easy.”
Jamaica has recorded 1,612 cases and 16 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Over 350 cases were recorded from August 20 to August 24, with Bolt’s party taking place on August 21 at a sports complex in Kingston.
