Stars have paid tribute to Anne Meara, who died a couple of days ago, aged 85. Steve Martin, Rosie O’Donnah and Sarah Silverman have paid tribute to her on twitter. The death came as a shock to those who have been long life fans of the actress, especially those who knew and worked with her first hand. Husband and Comic Jerry Stiller confirmed his wife’s passing, though the cause of death has not yet been disclosed. The death is believed to be of natural causes.
Born in Brooklyn, the actress never even dreamt of doing comedy until her husband suggested it in the 1950’s, one year after they wed. The newlyweds formed a strong alliance “Stiller and Meara” and performed all over New York city in 1961. Just one year after that, thanks to the hard work of the pair, they were considered a “National phenomenon” by the New York times, given them the break and exposure they needed. The couple earned themselves regular slots on shows like the Ed Sullivan show and that was only the beginning. Fast forwarding into the 80’s Meara played the English teacher Miss Sherwood in the Epic flick “Fame”, and within two decades the comedian and actress had played roles in the massive sitcom “Sex and the City”, “The Kings of Queens” and made guest star appearance roles Law and Order.
Twitter has literally ignited with heartache and memories for the late actress and the flood of messages give us just a small idea of how big she really was!! Here’s what some of her co stars along the years had to express.
We send our love to the Stiller family at this time of sadnESS
