KATIE PERRY: BRAND HAS NOT SPOKEN TO ME SINCE HE FILED DIVORCE BUT I HAVE TO EVOLVE

BY JAMES SIMONS

Russell Brand ended his marriage to Kate Perry in a text message according to an interview Katie gave to the Daily Telegraph.
The singer, songwriter and actress said she has not spoken to the comedian for 14 months since the text citing ”irreconcilable differences” between the pair. It raises questions as to exactly why their marriage was irreconcilable, though it may be that the pair where an absolute disaster for each other. The star gave no added insight to the reason for their split, raising legitimate questions as to why she even bothered raising the issue at all. Whether she was seeking sympathy or implicitly expressing pain is anyone’s guess. The question that would linger in the minds of anyone interested is ‘what happened to breed malice between the pair?
Brand, an outspoken rich comedian, has long been a hit, with the ladies and it is not beyond expectations that he may have bee getting a lot more attention than Perry could handle. Neither of the two have ever spoken publicly about their failed marriage, though I find it hard to see how a man who was once rumored to be bedding ladies as often as he wanted would easily settle with woman without the temptation to stray once in a while. This is no judgement on one of Britain’s funniest men, but rather an assumption that this may had played a role in the failed marriage. Women will always want to enjoy the company of Brand, whose good looks goes well with his intellectual mind never mind the bundle of money that goes with him.

Then again, you would think that with a successful woman like Katie Perry, both would enjoy a marriage full of joy and understanding and be able to solve any disputes they have. After all when two people join hands in marriage , they vow to stay together for better or for worse. How two presumably intelligent people could not resolve their differences and stay together happily after raises the question of whether celebrities are sincere when they decide to get married. This same wonder applies to lay people who make this vow only to betray it shamefully in a short time, for some. It is fair to say that there are times the innocent party is not to blame for the split, though the pertinent question is whether they try hard enough before calling it a day for good.

Perry and Brand first met Russell in 2009 when she filmed a cameo, in which the two kissed for his comedy ”Get Him to the Greek,”. The kiss was cut from the film, most likely leaving both to desire more of each other. That kiss blossomed after the the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in September when she playfully threw a bottle at his head at rehearsals. They topped the kiss with an engagement that year on New Year’s Eve in India. They married in October 2010 in a Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan. Their marriage lasted a year after Brand filed for Divorce in December 2011.
Eye of Media have in the last month applauded those celebrities who have renewed their marriage vows publicly, like Davina Mccall and others. Here we have Katie Perry divulging the failings of her private life to the media but withholding the more vital information of why the marriage failed. If she is prepared to talk about her failed marriage to Brand, she might as well have gone the full way in explaining what went wrong. If she is missing Brand, why can’t she contact him and open discussions about their marriage? Unless she feels partly responsible for the failure this would seem to be the most rational way forward. Marriage is a big step in a person’s life, one that should not be taken lightly. Personally, I don’t believe in marriage-it is far too risky an affair. People walk out of it easily, it causes too much pain.

”I don’t want to end up bitter sweet, she told the Telegraph. I have to evolve. I have to continue to push people’s perceptions of me. I’m excited by whatever it brings.I’m excited by my own evolution. The evolution she refers to is not entirely clear.

The fact Russell Brand is famous, rich, and ostensibly intelligent, makes it puzzling as to why the differences in this marriage where deemed ”irreconcilable”. Perhaps one party had committed transgressions beyond pardon. If this be the case, it is amazing how the details escaped the notice of the curious British media. On the face of it, we would think both individuals are reasonable people until we remember that reasonable people have faults and sometimes behave unreasonably. After all, was it not Brand who once condemned voting in elections only to backtrack and endorse Ed Milliband who eventually failed? In truth, it was understandable for Brand to scrutinize Milliband and involve himself in the election hype despite his cynical stance on politicians, though it still resembled the double standards he so strongly loathed in politicians.
His one redemption was the fact he took some interest in those elections in the end and took a position to show that it is alright to change one’s mind on important issues. Saying this, one important issue about which a change of mind is dangerous, is marriage. Though such change of mind is sometimes inevitable, it needs to be absolutely unavoidable. If not we betray the very principle we vowed to, and present legitimate questions about our integrity. At the moment, Katie Perry has not said what caused the divorce, all she has inadvertently done is shown them both to be unable to discuss their differences with a view to moving forward. By even talking about the fact they have not spoken, she has also inadvertently conveyed a relatively immature picture of herself, because she should not be talking about their failed marriage at all if she has no useful insights about the failure to offer the public. We have gained nothing from this news except to know that the pair are not on talking terms. The rest of the story has been left to our speculation. we expect more from Katie Perry.
