COMEDIAN RUSSELL BRAND OPPOSES NEW THAMES CROSSING

BY JAMES SIMONS

Comedian Russell Brand has joined a campaign to oppose a new Thames Crossing being built in Graves end, Kent, following lots of complaints and protests over traffic concerns, the demolition of homes, and pollution. Concerned residents have been invited to submit their views as part of a consultation which is open until next week Thursday- the 24th of March.

In a video posted on his facebook page, the essex born political activist describes the Highways England proposal as ”a terrible, terrible plan”, which will negatively affect hardworking British people living in areas on both sides of the river.

Road bosses insist the crossing is needed to ease congestion at the Dartford crossing and unlock economic growth- a claim denied by those who staunchly oppose the move.

VOICE

Brand has frequently presented himself as the voice of the people, and at times has reflected elements of sincerity in his bid to represent the disadvantaged or unheard groups of society.

DRAWBACK

A nagging draw back to his involvement in campaigns is his falling reputation with the British public that arises from many of the unwelcome and poorly thought out remarks that will cause many not to take him seriously.

Russell Brand is a naughty joker by nature, who sometimes trivializes serious issues but who indubitably possesses a serious side to his eccentric make up. This somewhat intangible serious side, has in times past expressed itself in some of the impulsive outbursts he has volunteered to the public.

brand‘s involvement in this campaign will automatically win the support of residents in Grays and Kent, but how far it goes in addressing their concerns is yet to be seen.
