Charlotte Webster-
Second hand Marijuana More dangerous than tobacco, according to a new study by an eminent Los Angeles professor.
A new study has found that exposure to second hand Marijuana smoke is more damaging to blood vessels than breathing second hand tobacco smoke.
The study conducted by Dr Matthew Springer, a senior author and professor of medicine at the University of California, used th e blood flow of arteries of rats as a template for his research.
Blood flow in the arteries of rats that had inhaled second hand Marijuana smoke for one minute was less efficient for at least 90mins.
The same experiment conducted with the arteries of rats that had inhaled tobacco revealed blood vessels less efficient for only 30 seconds.
BURNING OF PLANT MATERIAL
Further revealed in the research was that the burning of plant material had a causative effect on blood vessels, in sharp contract to chemicals and tetrahydrocannabinol.
Expert researchers have confirmed the striking similarity between the way both rats and hamans react to second hand tobacco smoke.
Springer, a professor of medicine at the University of California, at San Francisco’s division of cardiology, said in a statement:
“While the effect is temporary for both cigarette and Marijuana smoke, these temporary problems can turn into long term problems if exposures occur often enough and may increase the chances of developing hardened and clogged arteries”.
Dangerous
Hardened and clogged arteries are dangerous for the human system. Clogged arteries affects the blood vessels by dialling the vessels- a process called vasodilation. It briefly raises the blood pressure then subsequently lowers the blog pressure after that.
Cannabis evidently slows the process of mental activity, causing lethargy and inertia more often than not.
Many smokers have confessed to feeling very lazy when high. However, there are smokers who can operate even when high, but their level of focus and alertness will still be quite slow.
BALLOT INITIATIVES
.
The discovery comes as three U.S states- California, Marine and Nevada, are due to vote on ballot initiatives in relation to the question of legalising recreational Marijuana this November.
CANNABIS
This announcement will go down badly with enthusiasts of cannabis, who for years have argued that cannabis is actually healthier than tobacco.
Many U.S states are legalising medicine and recreational Marijuana these days.
CANNABIS ADVOCATES
Most advocates of cannabis point to the natural growth of from the soil, but who overlook the chemical additives often blended with natural cannabis to boost its strength and raise its appeal and effectively the profit margins of greedy drug dealers.
