CONTROVERSY
Controversy has accompanied this band over a decade, but they continue to be a force to reckon with in the music industry and will perform from April 15-17 and from April 22-24 this year at Coachella – a center known to reunite bands. Although the cost of the show is in excess of $200, the quest to finally see two of their former members – Axl and Slash on the same stage- outweighs any issues of high entrance fees which several of their fans will be prepared to pay.
Like many bands around today, the well liked band have had internal feuds that has threatened the public perception of the collective group, but as a team, they have somehow always managed to overcome and transcend the effects of those shortcomings that have beset them in times past. The recent announcement by Billboard that the band were to come together once again shocked but thrilled many, because of the bad blood between Axl and Slash.
The reunited band is also earmarked to be negotiating with promoters to play in as many as 25 football stadiums in the U.S, in the summer of 2016, and is scheduled to be one of the first acts to play the new Las Vegas Arena, set to open on April 6.
A press release from the Guns and Roses (GNP) camp, Slash and Duff McKagan will re-group. However, it is still unclear rather whether other former members will be joining in.
The last show Axl and Slash played together was nearly twenty three years ago, back in July 17, 1993 in Buenos Aires. All accounts point to the suggestion that the pair have put to rest the acrimony between them that saw them go separate ways. Loved for their cool temperament on stage coupled with the ambiance that attends every showcase of theirs, this band was once dubbed the most dangerous band in the U.S. Yet, they have somehow amassed a following of 29 million followers over the years- a staggering number by any standards of measure. It is pretty well known that bands and groups generally reunite for the huge sums of money that accompany the limelight of their reunion. This, more especially so when a band has a huge loyal fan base like the band in question.
Touring has always been one of the biggest sources of remuneration for bands, and according to published reports, Guns and Roses (GNR) is apparently asking for around $3 million per show, with the grouping potentially higher this year. According to the RIAA, the band’s first album, “Appetite for Destruction,” is the biggest-selling debut in U.S. history, with 18 million sold. They have also sold 44.5 million albums in total. A band fuelled with much controversy, its has nevertheless garnered a steady fan base over the years with no sign of it waning anytime soon.
CHINESE DEMOCRACY
Their sixth studio album “Chinese Democracy,” was released, over a decade in the making before the “CD,” came to fruition on November 9, 2008. Dubbed “The Most Expensive Album Ever Made,” by the Newyork Times, the American publication went on to state how Geffen Records attempted to get Axl to deliver the album, and it had produced costs of an estimated $13 million. Axl Rose is perceived by fans as a musical genius but his private woes has sometimes turned him into a recluse who disappears only to reappear when it is least expected
