The meticulously planned trip, which was kept confidential for robust security reasons, occurred just two days after a major Russian aerial bombardment severely struck the capital, tragically killing at least four people.

The Princess handed President Zelenskyy a sealed envelope bearing the red royal crest, which observers suggest contained a personal letter from King Charles.

She spoke with staff diligently working to recover more than 19,500 Ukrainian children who authorities allege were forcibly transferred or deported by Russian forces. These conversations underscored the complex and continuous effort required for national recovery.

The Princess also met with female representatives of the police and armed forces, hearing about their critical role in protecting vulnerable women and children amidst the ongoing hostilities. Asking a police officer if the conflict has led to an increase in female personnel, she acknowledged the dynamic changes in Ukraine’s security landscape.

Moreover, the royal visitor toured a rehabilitation centre, engaging with Ukrainian veterans returning from the front line who were learning to cope with severe physical injuries and conflict-related trauma. At the centre, she observed a canine therapy session and spoke with service personnel adjusting to civilian life with disabilities. Such engagements demonstrate a commitment to both humanitarian and long-term recovery efforts.

Princess Anne is the second working member of the British royal family to travel to Ukraine since the war began, following the Duchess of Edinburgh’s trip last year. Her nephew, Prince Harry, also made a surprise visit recently with his Invictus Games Foundation team to support the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. These high-profile visits collectively demonstrate the consistent and public support from the British Monarchy for Ukraine’s sovereignty and its people.
