Mohammed Ali Centre Hosts Event To Empower Women

The Mohammed Ali Centre is hosting an event on women this today to honour the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted most women the right to vote, the Muhammad Ali Center and Metro United Way are teaming up for a virtual program called “100 Years Later: The Collective Power of Women.”

Met during the Women’s Equality Day online event Friday, August 28, 2020.

“During this crucial time in our history, women’s voices will have real impact on shaping our future and creating social justice and equity,” Donald Lassere, president and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center, said in a news release. “The collective power of women should not be understated or ignored.”

The event, which occurs between 10 and 11 a.m, features six past Muhammad Ali Center Daughters of Greatness recipients. The Daughters of Greatness Breakfast Series launched eight years ago and features women leaders of social change, activism and pursuits of justice.

The Muhammad Ali Center is a multicultural center with an award-winning museum dedicated to the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali. The Muhammad Ali Center mission is to preserve and share the legacy and ideals of Muhammad Ali, to inspire children and adults everywhere to be as great as they can be

Speakers include Roula Allouch, attorney at the Council of American-Islamic Relations, Dr. Renee Campbell, College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Cate Fosl, Anne Braden Institute at the University of Louisville
Diane Porter, Jefferson County Public Schools Board of Education.

Also speaking is Theresa Reno-Weber, resident & CEO of Metro United Way, and  prominent ambassador Shabazz, Founding Daughter of Greatness recipient and daughter of Malcolm X.

These six dynamic women will discuss the power of women through the years, the fight for the right to vote, systems that have divided us as a nation, the importance of women’s voices to be heard in elected office and in the voting booths, and the urgent need for true unity, representation and action.
