MIDDLE AGED BLONDE WHO PUT £33 WINNING TICKET IN THE WASH WAS NEGLIGENT

ERIC KING

A middle aged blond woman from Worcester claims she put her winning ticket of £33m pounds in the washing machine and has been able to retrieve the ticket.

But with the bar code and serial number washed off, this means she cannot verify the legitimacy of the ticket, though if Camelot really want to verify that she bought the ticket, they can.

It is fair to say that if the ticket shows her numbers and it can be proven that she was in the shop where the winning ticket was bought, then she clearly deserves the money. Camelot are apparently aware of her situation but it will always be arguable that the ticket may have been paid for a different date than the one in which the numbers actually came up.

The woman must be livid, but a lesson for her is not be so careless in future. Allowing the ticket end up in the wash is most careless, surely everyone would know that a lottery ticket should be kept carefully. She must be having sleepless nights, but this is a lesson she will have to learn. People must never take for granted the possibility that their numbers may come up- it is ridiculously negligent for anyone to put their lottery ticket in the wash. £33m is an awful lot of money to win only to lose because of carelessness.
