Liverpool have agreed its sixth signing this summer, with a deal of £12.5m deal for Southampton right-back, Nathaniel Clyne sealed. Clyne, who has been capped five times by England, will now undergo a medical at Liverpool and finalize his personal terms.
The south coast club had hoped for a fee of £15m for him, but settled for a forfeiture of £2m of the money to be dependent on appearances. They had rejected Liverpool’s opening offer of £10m. Clyne’s deal with Southampton is set to expire next summer. Clyne, who began his career at Crystal palace, played regularly in 4 championships seasons before he moved to Southampton where he contested 3 seasons in premiership league. He will follow three former Saints to Anfield – Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert, all of whom moved there from St Mary’s last summer – and he hopes to kick on after his fine season last time out, which brought him recognition at international level.
Liverpool have already signed Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez, as they move swiftly to restrengthen after their disappointing season last time out. Offers to buy talented striker, Raheem Sterling, have been snubbed by the club, though in the event of a £50m deal on Sterling, may help their financial balance sheet a bit.
