Leyton Orient fans have launched a petition to rename their stand at the Breyer Group Stadium after Justin Edinburgh.
The club’s 49 year old coach died of a cardiac arrest after being taken to hospital last Monday Tributes have poured in from players and staff at Orient to the wider footballing community. Fans are eager to change the name of one of the stands at the ground where he is credited for numerous accomplishments with the club in a short space of time. The petition has already received 2,00 signatures.
Edinburgh , who made 213 appearances for Tottenham Hot Spurs, started his career as a trainee for Southend United before joining Spurs on loan for £150,000 in 1990. His managerial career included time at Fisher Athletics in 2006 to becoming assistant manager at Grays boys Athletic , before managing Newport County in 2011 and Northampton Town in 2017 on a two and a half year contract that saw him dismissed 8 months later because of poor results that included loosing four of his first four matches. He eventually appointed as manager of Leyton Orient in November 2019.
Edinburgh was taken to hospital last Monday after being taken ill before his sad passing away was announced. Tributes poured in for the former Tottenham Hotspur defender from players and staff at Orient to the wider footballing community, and now fans want to change the name of one of the stands at the ground where he achieved so much in a relatively short time with the club, and the campaign is closing in on 2,000 signatures already.
PETITION
Tor Bartram, who started the petition, wrote on Change.org: “Following the sudden and tragic death of Justin Edinburgh, it can only be right that we, as a club, remember Justin Edinburgh in a fitting way.
“By renaming the West Stand to the Justin Edinburgh (West) Stand, this would be a fitting tribute to the man who turned the club around from 20 in the Conference to league winners for the first time since 1970, in only 16 months.”
As well as guiding Orient back to the Football League since their relegation in 2017, Edinburgh also took the club to the FA Trophy final in his only full campaign with the club.
Orient’s ground was opened up yesterday for fans to come and pay their tributes to the boss, with players Jobi McAnuff and Dean Brill also in attendance.
