Labour is in crises amid calls for the resignation of Jeremy Corbyn. 18 of his shadow cabinet, and a further 10, are expected to resign this morning.
Calls for Corbyn’s resignation has been ongoing ever since the Brexit vote from the EU referendum. The rebellion was caused because of the strong belief that Corbyn applied minimal effort in the campaign for the historical EU Referendum vote.
However, Corbyn has so far been defiant in response to the rebellion and discontent.
His declaration in a statement not to “betray the trust of those who voted for me or the millions across the country who need millions to represent them”,
has led to more internal division between the party.
Corbyn has tried to contain the embarrassing revolt by promising to reshape his cabinet and establish a new leadership team that will move Britain forward towards campaigning for a fairer Britain.
Labour is in crises, Corbyn’s rhetoric and plans can’t change this now. He has a mess on his hands. Corbyn is believed to be a Brexiter at heart, who hated the idea of having to represent a Remain camp.
This would explain the lacklustre campaign of his that has angered his party. Such are the often inevitable double Standards imposed by politics, that a man be expected to vote and campaign fervently against his conscience.
Heavyweight MP, Hilary Benn, has already been gone since yesterday, and the party is gradually disintegrating. it seems unlikely that calls for Corbyn’s resignation will pressure him to step down. He will desperately seek support from trusted allies through his reshuffling and promotional moves.
