Investigation Into How Jailed Cop Who Falsely Imprisoned Woman Underway Was Recruited

An investigation into how jailed police officer, Sam Grigg was recruited and whether there were earlier complaints against him, are underway.

The IOPC and The Met have been asked to examine the recruitment process of PC Briggs in the Metropolitan Police, given the brazen manner in which he committed his offence of false imprisonment, and also inform the pubic whether any prior complaints had been made about him, and if so, how many.

Sam Grigg(pictured) appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, where he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with an extended licence period of two years, once he is released.

Thirty-six-year-old Grigg, who was formerly attached to the South West Basic Command Unit, had pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault at the same court on January 5.

His cruel and daring attack on Natasha Rabinowitz in Twickenham, south-west London, on 2 December, showed just how heartless some police officers can be. The narcissistic disgraced cop can argue he is not as bad as Wayne Couzens who raped and murdered his victim.

Grigg, 36, then tied his victim to a sofa by her wrists and ankles and later hurt her twice with a kitchen knife as he cut her free, Kingston Crown Court heard”

The court heard how on December 2, 2022, when Grigg was off-duty, he used tape to unlawfully restrain his housemate against her will in an address they shared in Twickenham.

Having left her restrained for a period of time, he then cut her free using a knife, cutting her in the process. It was  a horrendous ordeal for any woman to experience.

The woman suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment, but it was still an awful experience.

After news broke of Grigg’s arrest, an ex-girlfriend came forward to reveal how he enjoyed tying her up and gagging her mouth during sex, saying she was “not enthusiastic” but agreed to the activity.

“He enjoyed the power of tying her up and putting tape over her mouth when she was unable to move”, said the judge, summarising her statement.

The ex-girlfriend said Grigg watched “alarming” pornography and had an obsession with BDSM and bondage.

When his traumatised victim threatened to report him, Grigg chillingly told her: “Who are you going to tell? I am the police”.

When the evil brute’s bedroom was later searched, police discovered sets of handcuffs, cable ties, more rolls of duct tape, a ball and gag, bundles of rope, and two police batons.

Ms Rabinowitz said she feared being raped by Grigg, and is now afraid of coming into contact with the police in the future.

Grigg – a former PC who was sacked by the Met after his guilty pleas – initially tried to claim the incident was a “joke”, but accepted on Friday that his actions were sexually-motivated.

Cases like Grigg highlight how easily some police officers are to breaking the law, to the extend that they believe the can assault a woman and escape justice. The feeling of invincibility suggest past observations that cops can act with impunity, when their pals shamefully protects them at the expense of society’s interest.

Past criminal records, including serious complaints against police officers jailed for serious crime can provide a useful indication of the things to look out for with officers in the futre joining the force.

There are now strong recommendations that police officers with criminal records should not be allowed to join the force, but there are no signs yet, that police chief Mark Rawley will implement such ideas, despite his vow to clean up the force.

Crigg was charged and suspended on December 8 and, following his conviction, was dismissed without notice on January 30.
