A massive $520 is still unclaimed in Florida- America- despite alot of media publicity surrounding the unclaimed prize. The ticket was one of three tickets worth $1.6bn sold in Florida, Tenessee and California- only the Tenessee winner has so far come forward.
“The winner [may want] to get their affairs in order, or seek an attorney,” Florida Lottery spokeswoman, Shelly Gertisen told USA today.
“It’s a life changing amount of money, so [the winner] just may be seeking legal counsel or maybe waiting for media interest to die down.”
It has been six weeks since the prize was won, sparking concerns in some quarters that there might be a stinking rich person who doesn’t even know about it. In a country where having plenty of loot is everybody’s dream, and where people are generally driven to earn some real cash, most ordinary Americans who have factually ruled themselves out of this fantastic prize can only pity the sorry soul who may ny be struggling to pay a few bills when they should now have enough not to even need to mention the word bills ever again.
Ms Gertisen did mention the possibility that the winner may be seeking financial advice first from advisers, but this is highly improbable when you are talking of such huge sums. Not many people will be able to sleep night after night knowing full well that they have such huge money waiting for collection.
The winning numbers were 4-8-19-27-34 and Powerball 10.
Lottery rules clearly give an initial 60 day deadline that if a winner for lottery prize claimants to come forward, after which they have a further 120 days to claim the prize as an annuity which works out to be about $7.9m the first year with 30 annual payments to follow. This is a lot of loot. The winner should come forward or send us the ticket to claim it instead.
