Forensic Search in Remote Paramoor Woods Enters Fourth Month

By Charlotte Webster-

Police teams have confirmed a specialist forensic operation for human remains has extended into its fourth month within a large, challenging area of remote woodland in Cornwall.

The significant search, initially commencing at the start of July, is being diligently led by detectives from Devon and Cornwall Police. Such is the unique and complex nature of the probe that an expert group of officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) are assisting local personnel.

Additionally, Home Office-approved scientists are working methodically across the site to process potential evidence.

Several different police forces, including West Mercia and the City of London, were drafted in via mutual aid agreements to help ensure the necessary manpower and expertise is available.

The scene is located in Paramoor Woods, which sits on the outskirts of the small village of Sticker near St Austell.

Police have established a large operational base in the immediate vicinity, including setting up four large tents and even building a temporary road and bridge to ensure access to the heart of the search area.

The continuous nature of the operation reflects the extreme difficulty presented by the terrain and the potential need to excavate and analyze large sections of woodland.

Recently, forensic officers were observed entering the deep woods using specialized equipment, including tripods to take detailed photographic records.

Officers have also been seen digging into the earth and meticulously sifting through soil, a process which requires immense patience and high levels of specialist training.

Privacy screens and bright floodlights have been installed around the site to preserve the integrity of the scene twenty-four hours a day.

The persistent search activity follows the earlier discovery of human remains which were later identified as those of Daniel Coleman, a 43-year-old man from St Austell who had been reported missing.

This initial identification confirmed the necessity of the extensive operation now taking place.

Authorities have subsequently charged one man with murder in connection with the investigation.

This charged individual is next due to appear in court in November, according to the latest updates from the judicial process.

Despite earlier, unverified reports in the media about the potential for multiple sets of remains being found, police statements have categorically confirmed that only the remains believed to be those of Daniel Coleman have been recovered to date.

The force’s priority remains a diligent and thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.
