The chairman of FIFA’s medical committee, Michel D’Hooghe has announced the likelihood that the row over Chelsea’s club doctor could lead to a new code of ethics for managers and team doctors.
Chelsea Doctor, Eva Carneiro, was wrongfully demoted by arrogant Chelsea Manager, Jose Mourinho, after she treated Eden Hazard on the field during their 2-2 draw in Swansea- a move that ultimately meant Hazard left the pitch whilst the Chelsea team already a man down continued with 9 men.
Mourinho argued that it was important to understand the game and he did not believe her intervention was necessary at the time. However, it later emerged that the well acclaimed doctor had actually been beckoned unto the pitch by the referee and had an obligation under FIFA rules, to comply to the referees request. This revelation in retrospect made Mourinho judgement look misguided and led to calls for an apology which was not forthcoming.
D’Hooghe says FIFA may formalise their position on the treatment of players following an incident at the start of the season when Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho banished team doctor Eva Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn from the bench. Carneiro, received overwhelming support from supporters on social media.
