EASTENDERS LIVE REVIEW- A SPECIAL SHOW

BY CHEMELLE RICE

It’s officially over but it’s still very much the talk of the planet and it’s no surprise. The veteran popular television show was the best since the soap began. We had bloopers and bleepers-more murders and creepers.

Adam Woodyats reception during and after the show were and still are utterly phenomenal. Adam who plays Ian Beale was without a doubt, the best during the live week. His acting never flickered with one ounce of shabbiness. His delivery was just as pure as we hoped day after day after day. Adam joined the square from the very start on the 19th February 1985. He has been continuous rather than the others, who have left and returned years apart. He is EastEnders!

Adam is one of three original actors that the square have kept Inc. Letitia Dean and Gillian Taylforth who play Sharon and Kathy. The other cast and crew had been repeatedly replaced with different actors over the years.

Laurie Brett I have to take my hat off too, she was more and then some. I underestimated her as an actress but I guess we all don’t know what they are capable of until we see them live. Laurie who plays Jane Beale nailed every dialogue, keeping us engaged with every pause and each breath. She was engagingly fantastic to watch and as equally as sharp to watch as Sharon, who is played by Letitia Dean. Letitia and Steve McFadden we’re both feistily on point. It’s like the whole cast was on fire last week. The bloopers were minimal next to nothing.

Danny Dyer was pretty epic live alongside Maddie Hall who won an NTA Award last month for “The best newcomer”. Danny who plays Mick Carter had a scuffle with the forever despised Dean, his wife’s rapist. The brawl took place in the queen vic’s cellar, after dean got caught red handed lacing the cellar floor with petrol. The last we saw was Dean lying flat out cold on the floor, they then left us with no real idea as to whether he had died or not. We was given the impression that Mick moved the body but you know what EastEnders are like. There is always a curly fry twist.

SURPRISES:

Bobby killed Lucy. We have the answer to our 10 month elongated wait, finally! It felt a little like Cluedo though, I must admit. Mr Green killed Lucy in the Living room with a Candle Stick. Some of us were disappointed with the end results, Safe to say they can’t make everyone happy can they. Little Bobby whom I’ve now named simply “The Don” got fed up of Lucy and “apparently” has no idea that he killed her till this day. YEAH RIGHT! Listen to me for a moment guys, this is a great story for EastEnders to continue in the years to come. The words “Serial Killer” spring to mind. Roll on the next anniversary I say.

Ian’s Mum Kathy showed up from the graveyard! She was killed off years ago! Well, I guess she wasn’t dead after all. Phil met her on a dingy rooftop overlooking the canary wharf building where she begged him to return home. It appears she is sick of playing dead. This has us feeling a little happy for Ian though as he will sooner be brought to light that his Mum is in fact alive. My guesses are Phil paid her off all the years ago so he could have Ben.

Richard Blackwood made his debut and he did well live too. We are still unsure as to his real purpose on the square, he flitted between Phil and Ronnie and awkwardly avoided making any contact with Kim after she had given birth to her daughter, whose father is still a mystery. During the flashback episode Blackwood, whose character’s name is still unknown, gave Ronnie Mitchell a gun on the night of Lucy Beale’s Murder. What is this history we see between the pair? The new bad boy practically threw himself at her, he was soon to be pushed away, killing the kiss off. Most importantly what is she doing been kissed by my man? It goes without saying that Richard Blackwood looks has even improved with age- he is like fine wine.

As for Phil, he was forever trying to tell Ian something but the timing was “Obviously” wrong and the last we saw was Phil leaving the square with his passport at hand.

The whole show was very emotional and the aftermath showed Adam and Laurie in floods of happy tears. Peter Beale played by Ben Hardy performed for the last ever time during the last live episode on Friday, we will be seeing him for a further more 4-6 weeks before his official square exit. I take it he couldn’t live around Bobby after knowing what he’d done. Rumour has it he is set to play a Cyclops in the next X –men movie: Apocalypse. Our little Blonde Hunk is moving onto the big screen. It was interesting to see how the show captivated the entire nation- the twist of the plot was extremely gripping.

BLEEPERS

Tanya Banning’s surprise return. I must admit she had me in stitches when she fluffed her lines. Did you miss it? Not to worry, it’s all on YouTube. Jo Joyner who plays Tanya, her facial expression is forever embedded in my brain for any future dull moments! Whenever I feel like I’m about to do something stupid like eat my fifth slice of carrot cake I will remember her face. It’s as much of a guilty pleasure as my cake is! She started off so well when she poked her head through that door. What a lovely surprise it was to see her again but panic splashed across her face when she asked Jane “How’s Adam?” ADAM??? You mean Ian woman! Her eyeballs nearly popped out her socket and I did shed a tiny tear of joy because well, I’m programmed that way.

This little bleeper is nothing compared to the shows 25th anniversary bleepers, when Scott Maslan who plays Max’s Brother Jack, fluffed his lines so bad I could have stuffed a pillow. Did you miss that too? Not to worry. Everything is on YouTube- thank God for the internet. He stuttered so bad and couldn’t string a sentence together at all. Max Branning played by Jake Wood flopped when he fake projectile vomited and didn’t realise the cameras were still on him. So comparing this years to EastEnders 25th anniversary is no comparison. The 25th anniversary is living in the 30th anniversary’s shadow. It’s safe to say no pillows can be fluffed and distributed this time around. Even more creditable is the fact these actors had to exhibit their professionalism live on air, overcoming every pressure that would naturally accompany such deviation from their normal practise. They were a very great team to watch-well done to the cast and crew- roll on to the next big anniversary!

RATINGS

25TH anniversary – 6/10
This year’s 30th anniversary – 9.5/10

You were a great watch. Well done to all the cast and crew, roll on the next big anniversary.
