CHELSEA BEATEN BUT STILL ON TOP

BY TIM PARSONS

West Brom battered Chelsea 3-0 yesterday in a relatively inconsequential game yesterday. The match began at an intense pace, with both sides competing fiercely despite the fact Chelsea had the trophy in the bag from the get go.

When do Berahino opened scored with a beautiful strike that beat the goal keeper, it was almost a given that Chelsea who have won 16 straight games in a stretch would find a way back, but fortunes would change sooner rather than later.   Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas was sent off shortly after conceding a goal , when he seemed to maliciously kick the ball at Chris Brunt.

Berahino made it goal number two from the  center spot when John Terry chopped him down. Chelsea paid dearly for the transgression, and now needed to work wonders to catch up. Such wonders are nothing new in football, but Bromley’s win was secured when a nice corner kick by Brunt entered the net

Brunt rounded off the win with an angled shot from a quick corner.

Chelsea’s invincibility was lost, but their success in these championships remained in tact, given the aggregate scores. Chelsea have one final match to play against Sunderland, and the one defeat in the hands of Bromley will give them food for thought, but cannot neutralize the fruits of their labour in all the previous matches before.
