Charges Filed After Arson at MP’s Office
The Crown Prosecution Service announced that Joshua Oliver, of no fixed address, faces an arson charge following the major fire. The blaze broke out during the early hours of Thursday, engulfing the offices of Sharon Hodgson, the Labour MP for Washington and Gateshead South. Investigators were seen at the scene in the Concord area, with the fire gutting the entire premises. >The CPS confirmed that it has sufficient evidence to proceed with the case and that prosecution is in the public interest.

The fire tragically impacted more than just the MP’s office. Officials from both organisations have been working to mitigate the damage caused by the destruction of their facilities. For more details on the role of the Crown Prosecution Service in such cases, you can visit their official website.
Political Leaders Condemn Attack
Following the incident, spokespeople for both No 10 and the MP’s office released statements condemning the violence. A No 10 spokesperson stated, “There is absolutely no place for this kind of violence in our society.” This sentiment was echoed by a spokesperson for Sharon Hodgson, who made it clear that “there is no place for this kind of violence in our society.” The MP will not be deterred and continues to support her constituents, encouraging them to contact her office via email in the usual way.
It is believed that a political message had been spray-painted on the side of the building months before the fire. However, authorities do not believe it is directly related to the arson attack. In addition, the public has been urged by the CPS not to share information online that could prejudice the ongoing legal proceedings against the suspect.
