Obama’s insignificant emails released by wikileaks

By Aaron Miller-

WikiLeaks have revealed insignificant emails between President Obama And John Podesta during the 2008 elections.

The emails  show correspondence between then-presidential candidate Obama, and John Podesta, around Election Day in 2008. The hacked emails here provide a small snapshot of the transition from George W. Bush’s presidency to Mr. Obama’s, which would take place in the midst of the financial crisis, and they also showed the cabinet positions under consideration for Hillary Clinton.

The contents of the mails reveal nothing untoward, nor did it reveal any highly classified information. However, its intrusiveness is provocative, and serves no positive purpose. The leaked mails includes  communication between Obama and Podesta- the leader of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. The communication included key decision making in relation to an emergency national economic council headed by one of his advisers. Other topics discussed in the leaked emails include plans for a strategic approach for a G20 emergency meeting.

One interesting point was a list of ”diversity candidates” for potential candidate members who were African American, Asian, as well as a list of women. Nowhere on the list was any confirmation of whether these diversity candidates were eventually added to the cabinet, or what fraction, if any, were actually added to the list. And even if any names were added to the list, there would be nothing unethical about this if the candidates had the necessary credentials.

CLINTON

Podesta emails apparently show Hillary Clinton’s name was on the list for two positions: “State, HHS,” according to the list. Other names matched to various positions were also revealed on the list, but there was no suggestions of any wrong doing on the part of the U.S president. Barack Obama will be angry about the leaks, but can take great comfort from the fact that the mails only show him to be paving the way for the inclusion or contemplation of minority groups with the necessary credentials, into his political team.
A revelation in the email that looks good on President Obama,is one in which Obama was asked by Podesta to dissociate himself from former president George Bush, to avoid presenting America as divided. Obama is said to have replied, ”The president of theUnited States has One president at a time, and at the time that is president Bush”, the response from came. It was dignified and reasonable.

 EXC– USES PROVIDED FOR OBAMA

The mail which provided excuses Obama can give to avoid mixing with George Bush, will be seen as designed to discredit Podesta’s credibility with the American public. However, the crucual thing is whether Podesta had logical and sensible reasons for the suggestion. Podesta’s plan was for Obama to maintain his ”very tenuous global standing”.

OBAMA DECLINES INVITE

Ultimately, Mr. Obama declined the invitation, stating “It is not appropriate for two people to show up at this meeting,” Podesta told reporters in November 2008, according to the Guardian. “The president-elect will respect the fact that we have one president at a time’‘.
Wikileaks boss has always maintained his conviction for the world to know what powerful men and women actually get up to, in order to show the real picture of human institutions.

WIKI-RIGHTS

This is within his rights as a journalist, but questions still remain as to whether the intimacy of private details should morally be exposed to the world like this. Allegations that this is part of the Russian plot to interference with the elections can be expected to be stated again by the U.S government.
The Equadorial government yesterday indicated their desire not be seen to be meddling in the U.S elections. It is somewhat surprising how Obama leaked emails were released within a day from that.  It shows Assange’s determination to expose all the information he has, and can only serve to intensify tensions between Moscow and The U.S. However, the two super powers will need to deal with their differences professionally.
