A drug baron on day release has been ambushed and stabbed as he made his way back to jail.
Sean McGovern was pounced upon and stabbed around the head by two men disguised as joggers in sunglasses as he stepped out of a 42,000 car driven by a woman.
The violent ambush happened in broad daylight, a few yards from the Balmoral star hotel. Mcgowan was jailed for 17 years for dealing heroin in the capital and firing two warning shots at a rival.
The attack is believed to be a revenge move for some of the bad boy’s dealings, but the shocked passer by’s in the area. Buses nearby had been dropping and picking up tourists in the area when the attack happened. Not many tourists often see or hear of stabbings close to where they are.
Blood dripped down the drug barons head as the two assailants printed away in full view of onlookers who appreciated what had just taken place. CCTV in the area captured the men, but not quite the attack.
There is no doubt the men were aware that Mcgowan was being driven back, and carefully followed the car in which he was driven. This attack was clearly a set up by people who caught wind of the time and destination of his departure. The stabbing was certainly planned.
Revenge attacks like these are a grim reminder of some of the dangers of drug dealing, and the unforeseen consequences that can come from dabbling in drugs. The precise nature of the rivalry that can come about in the course of dealing is not always foreseeable.
Scottish police are investigating the bloody attack and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
