The sudden death of Shane Warne, 52, Australia’s world renowned Cricket genius, sent shock waves across the world and drawn special attention to the practice of dieting and detoxification, despite the autopsy results revealed this morning that he died of ‘natural causes’.

Warne, whose passing occurred  after completing a 14-day liquid diet following his arrival on the resort Island of Samui in Thailand, for a three month break, had underlining asthma and heart concerns, and complained of chest pains before the tragic incident.

A state funeral will be held for Warne at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 30 March.

Leg-spinner Warne is widely considered one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

He took 708 wickets – the second most of all time – in 145 Tests across a stellar 15-year international career for Australia.

Warne was on a  trip’ at the luxury Samujana Villa resort in Koh Samui when he was found unresponsive in his room about 5pm local time.

Warne reportedly wanted to lose weight and regain the looks he had in his younger years. It remains unclear what the Thai authorities made of the reported blood stains found on a bath towel and the floor of the bedroom where he was found dead in the villa. It’s striking however that what an unnamed acquaintance described as a ridiculous’ 14 day liquid only fast was a clear aberration to the human body.

James Erskine, Warne’s long-term manager had suggested Warne suffered a suspected heart attack, as did preliminary evaluation by the Thai authorities.

It did not help that the legendary Aussie bowler was a heavy smoker, had recently been treated for Covid-19, and struggled with other health issues. No firm evidence to link Warne’s diet to his heart attack has been established, and the cricketer’s autopsy is currently underway in Thailand.

The Heart Foundation’s chief medical advisor Professor Garry Jennings said that there was indeed a risk the heart could be put under extra strain by very low calorie diets under some conditions.

‘Mostly, these risks are on top of an underlying heart problem, they don’t come out of the blue. I doubt they could cause a heart problem just by themselves,’ Professor Jennings told The Sydney Morning Herald.

‘Basically, if your metabolism, your handling of fluids, salt and other electrolytes gets completely out of whack, if you have a small heart attack, you’re more likely for that to turn into something serious with a rhythm disorder.’

Traditionally all over the world, fasting diets involves total abstention from food with the only thing consumed being water, a method that can be extremely harsh to the body, said Dr. Helen Foster, Lecturer and Biosciences researcher, University of Hertfordshire, in March 2018.

”There are now modified forms of fasting which limit calorie consumed for a period of time, research dietician, Dr Jane Bowen dietician at the Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation. This is an Australian Government agency responsible for science research (CSIRO)explained. CSIRO works with leading organization’s across the world.

Recent studies from Havard University found fasting may alter how parts of each cell, called the mitochondria behaves. it can switch back and forth during an intact state and is harmless during periods of fasting. It remains in a helpful intact stage which could help slow down how fast ageing takes place.

It is generally agreed that fasting plans are not suitable for everyone. People who have had an eating disorder, women who and or breast feeding and people with health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease and anyone on long-term medication. Medical supervision is essential.

Intermittent fasting, is currently one of the most popular health and fitness trends. People are using it to lose weight, simply improve their lifestyles. The popular health trend surrounding not eating at all for specific periods of time is said to have many benefits and some risks.. It promotes improved body composition , lowers disease risk and can improve brain function.

Intermittent fasting involves going without food for a period of time, Important to note there are a variety of ways to incorporate this type of fasting.

‘Fasting for 14 days  can be extreme,’ said TJ Ossai, veteran sports man sports nutritionist and personal trainer at befittoday.co.uk said. ‘It can be very stressful to the organs. ‘Normally, a period of one to two weeks, under medical supervision is important. I wont advise complete abstention for even a whole week without any food. Having underlining issues is even more risky, particularly to the heart’.

It is understood that ordinarily, the presence of asthma can aggravate heart concerns. Fasting or what is meant to be detoxification can be extra harmful to the body.

Just five days ago, Warne shared an old picture of himself without a shirt to Instagram, revealing he was working hard to get back in shape.

‘Operation shred has started (10 days in) & the goal by July is to get back to this shape from a few years ago ! Let’s go,’ he wrote.

A picture online, taken at 11am on Friday, hours before his death, showed the cricket king sporting a wide grin and a healthy tan as he enjoyed the trip with mates.

An hour later, he visited a local tailor who said the star was ‘buzzing with excitement’ and ordered a fresh new suit – but by 5pm, he was dead.

An autopsy conducted  confirmed Warne died from ‘natural causes’, with his body then driven 600km to Bangkok where it will be flown back to Australia on a commercial flight.

Warne’s family have since issued a lengthy statement with individual tributes from his parents Keith and Brigette, brother Jason, his three children Brooke, Jackson and Summer and ex-wife Simone Callahan.
