Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury bumped into each other in Marbella, Spain, and each vowed to win their upcoming fights in order to ensure their big anticipated showdown to unify the heavyweight belts takes place in 2021.
The incredible chance meeting occurred as both men took time off to relax abroad ahead of their training camp in preparation for their next fight.
Fury pulled up in a luxurious jeep next to Joshua, who was taking a stroll, and the pair exchanged words geared at ensuring their big day.
Fury is on a high after dethroning former reigning world Champion Deontey Wilder, in an emphatic victory last February, while Joshua regained the titles he lost at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jnr in June 2019, by delivering a display of tactical brilliance last December to win a clear landslide victory.
Joshua takes on mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev in Britain in either October or November, and Fury is contracted to a rematch against Wilder before the end of the year. According to reports, both men assured each other they would triumph in their interim fight in order to guarantee a lucrative meeting bound to capture the imagination of the public.
Clash
A clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is expected to be the biggest heavyweight unification title showdown between two British boxers, breaking records beyond imagination.
Fury at 6ft 9 inches is unbeaten in 31 fights, while Joshua has one loss in 24 fights. Fury at the moment is favoured by boxing pundits to seize all Joshua’s belts when they eventually meet, but the Londoner hits so hard that he cannot be ruled out of victory in such a major fight. And the performance of each man has to be reviewed after their next fight.
First, Joshua must brush off Pulev in October, and Fury will have to see of Wilder a second time and face a WBC mandatory against 32 year old Dillian Whyte, 32. The implication being that Joshua may still have to wait for Fury to give Whyte a shot in the event of a repeat victory by the unbeaten gypsy man against Wilder.
This leaves a Fury and Joshua fight less likely to happen anytime before the end of the summer of 2021, provided each of the two heavyweight gladiators keep on winning.
