A federal judge in Denver has ordered city police to stop deploying tear gas, rubber bullets and other “less-than-lethal” devices such as flash grenades.
The injunction was ordered in response to a lawsuit filed on Thursday in the Denver District Court by protesters complaining about excessive force by officers during demonstration.
Wide protests across the U.S over the inhumane killing of George Floyd has shun a torch on police brutality which has been manifest in their handling of protesters.
Incidents of police violence in the U.S in response to demonstrators protesting since the killing of George Floyd have been rife. It includes punching, kicking, gassing, and pepper-spraying at protesters.
In some cases, police have been filmed unscrupulously driving vehicles at peaceful protesters in states across the country. The brutal actions expose the extent of police brutality.
Thousands of protesters have ended up in jail, while many others had suffered with injuries, some with life-threatening injuries.
Police in Texas, California, Washington DC and many places beyond, from small towns to big cities, police officers have all demonstrated shocking levels of violence.
The UN high commissioner for human rights, Michelle Bachelet, said: “All police officers who resort to excessive use of force should be charged and convicted for the crimes committed.
Police in New York City alone have been guilty of multiple incidents of unacceptable brutality.
Last Saturday, officers in a police SUV drove at a crowd of protesters in Brooklyn, knocking several to the ground.
The previous day, a police officer was filmed violently shoving a woman to the ground during a demonstration.
The entire 57-member emergency response team of the Buffalo Police Department has resigned after two members of the unit were suspended without pay for pushing a 75-year-old to the ground during protests on Thursday. The protest of the police unit against the suspension carry a lot less weight than those protesting against police brutality in America.
Washington is expecting one of the largest demonstrations today, Saturday, as protests have shown no signs of disappearing yet.
