A Democratic lawmaker in America has called for urgent action from Congress to curb gun control after the worst shooting in U.S history.
Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut said Congress “get off its ass and do something.”
“This must stop,” Murphy said. “It is positively infuriating that my colleagues in Congress are so afraid of the gun industry that they pretend there aren’t public policy responses to this epidemic.”
“The thoughts and prayers of politicians are cruelly hollow if they are paired with continued legislative indifference. It’s time for Congress to get off its ass and do something.”
Gun violence in America has become an epidemic on a grand scale, with innocent lives lost every year by some crazy individual in the country. Las Vegas itself has one of the most lax law on gun control, access being one of the easiest in America, and loose permission for citizens to freely possess a gun to protect themselves. America has always been considered one of the most dangerous places to live or be, despite the fact it is also regarded as one of the most exciting and most sought after destinations.
Crazy people in America are in abundance, and one of the reasons many Americans own or access a gun is to protect themselves from any one of the crazy many who possess guns. The problem that accompanies the easy access to guns that in an instance has many times snuffed lives away and turned the lives of family members of victims into a living nightmare was laid bare in Las Vegas.
Gun owners can become loose cannons at any moment, especially those who are crazy, angry or bitter, and suicidal. 64 year old perpetrator, Paddock killed himself before police got to him. An Arsenal of deadlyweapons was found in his hotel room. Paddock had successfully fled the scene of the carnage he wilfully created and could have attempted to escape the area. His choice of taking his own life suggests he had planned to kill himself, but decided to take so many innocent people with him. Only five years ago, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut shook America, but this was the deadliest shooting in American history.
Former Vice president Joe Biden- a leader of the Obama administration task force on gun violence, said there was “no excuse for inaction.”
Democratic senator, Richard Blumenthal, has also said he is “furious” at Congress’ inaction. “It has been barely a year since what was previously the largest mass shooting in American history — the deadly attack at Pulse nightclub,” Blumenthal said about the 2016 massacre in Orlando, Florida. “In the interim, thousands more have been lost to the daily, ruthless toll of gun violence. Still, Congress refuses to act. I am more than frustrated, I am furious.”
CONGRESS DEBATE
Congress have recently been debating two major laws to loosen gun restrictions. One bill is set to establish legitimate permits to carry concealed weapons across state lines. This bill would weaken states that have adopted stricter gun laws. Another law that is being debated is whether to make it easier for people to buy silencers. Advocates of this law say would limit hearing damage for hunters and recreational shooters. The flip side is that it would also make it harder for police to locate criminal gunmen during an active shooting.
With this deadly shooting in Las Vegas that has killed 58 people, any debate presented to support more lax gun laws will be ludicrous. Americans will be seen as enemies of themselves, taking a continuous road of danger.
