West Yorkshire Police Presents Five Year Old Leeds Kid With Certicate Of Honour

By James Simons-

A  five-year-old boy has been awarded a certificate by West Yorkshire police  for his quick thinking.

The young lad from Leeds took a missing toddler to safety when he spotted him alone in the street has Diego Grabowski was playing on his scooter near to his home in Cottingley when he  saw  the two-year-old boy wandering about on his own. Diego Grabowski impressed police and received a certificate.

The child  got out of the back garden of his home by penetrating a bike lock which was  securing the gate, and squeezing through the gap while his mother was distracted by her baby.

Minutes later, the panicking mother immediately called police and the boy’s father began a frantic search of the area.  Five year old Diego then led the young kid to the first adult he saw, who was  a man working in a garden nearby. Eventually, the boy’s father who was out looking for him, eventually reunited with his son. Diego was treated to a tour of Elland Road police station as part of his award.

Diego was  given special VIP treatment at Leeds District Headquarters  where he was presented with a certificate and given a tour of the station. Perhaps young Diego may want to be a police officer in future, who knows.

The award will definitely stay with him for life. The story is particularly interesting because five year old Diego should not himself have been without an adult. He must be five going fifteen, like some kids are. His initiative was certainly impressive, but his parents but now make sure he never grows up to be a criminal arrested by police, but rather, a positive member of society. They will be keeping a watchful eye.

Superintendent Derek Hughes, who presented the award said in a statement: “It’s truly heartwarming that someone as young as Diego was able to recognize the risks to the missing boy and take him to safety.

“It showed great presence of mind and he is a credit to his family and fully deserves to be praised for his actions. “It is very unusual for someone as young as Diego to play such a vital role in bringing an emergency situation like this to a successful conclusion, and he is probably the youngest person we have ever commended.

“We hope his visit to us was enjoyable and was a suitable reward for his quick thinking and public-spirited behaviour. We also hope he will enjoy telling his schoolmates all about it and encouraging them to be good citizens too.”
