EU president, Mr. Juncker, has threatened to end talks without a trade deal unless Theresa May pays the alleged EU bill debt.
The UK prime minister was told at a dinner that the EU is not a golf club where members can quit and pay no more cash . Accusing her of viewing Brexit through ‘rose tinted glasses’, Juncker reportedly told the German prime minister, Angela Mekel, that May was living in another galaxy.
CRITICAL
And Juncker was critical of May’ s comments that what happens to 3 million EU citizens in Britain and several thousand Brits in EU countries. Referring to her time table as “optimistic”, Juncker has added fresh pessimism to the assumption that if Britain guarantees the stay of EU nationals in Britain, the move will be reciprocated by all the other 27 EU countries.
GROUNDS
It appears that all May has to do is pay £50 billion to get all she wants, or there will be no deal from EU countries over which Juncker reigns as President. The real issue should be whether the grounds of the bombastic bullish justified , instead of using it as a bargaining tool on which Brexit will run smoothly with fair deals .
This clear blackmail may be the only way a deal will be struck , despite downing street’s insistence that the meeting with Juncker was” constructive ahead of negotiations formally getting underway”.
