Bad Landlords To Be Named And Shamed In Data Base

By Ashley Young

Following a massive police raid of several homes in the east end of London ,  plans to we assemble an open database of incompetent landlords are underway.

The move is being set up by London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, after first hand experience of some of the homes tenants have been forced to endure as their habitat.
Homes infested with cockroaches were seen during the raids on Tuesday , the shocking realisation that landlords had failed to act when asked. In sone cases, whole families had been cramped in one small room, while being charged extortionately high  rents.

PROSECUTIONS

Over 1, 000 prosecutions were made in the east end last year, with 28 landlords stopped from operating completely. Landlords have long exploited the desperation of tenants , raising and varying rents as they please , and making huge profits they don’t deserve.
Landlords across the UK are accustomed to procrastinating on plans to implement repairs where necessary, sometimes not pursuing the continuous complaints about the state of their property at all.
The worst cases of abuse occur with unemployed individuals who have to get housing benefits to finance and support their rent. Councils across the country operate periodic checks on random properties , but many are left unchecked.
ABUSE
Abuse of position and power  has long been a problem with landlords , but the curtains are gradually closing in on them. Prospective tenants will be able to know whether a landlord has been exposed or convicted for negligence or any breaches of law or presiding over poor and unacceptable living conditions.

COMMMITMENT

The database will be set up before the end of 2017 , and will be open to the public. The eye of media.com is also commited to improving the state of housing for tenants by confronting inept  landlords , and naming and shaming them where necessary.
Landlords we approach are given a limited time to respond to the complaints of their tenants , or have their names stigmatised online. In extreme cases, where a tenant has been kept hanging for very long periods,  landlords should compensate them somehow  for the stress and inconvenience  caused
to tenants .
