Theresa May has announced that the Queen will approve the Government’s Brexit Bill in days.
The Prime Minister confirmed her expectations that the royal assent will be granted “in the coming days” to the Bill, granting her the official power to begin negotiations with the EU. Once she has formally triggered Article 50 before the end of March, she will deliver an official notification to the Commons.
She promised to come to the Commons before the end of March to inform MPs she had formally triggered Article 50.
Her announcement comes the day after the House Of Lords voted favourably to give her the green light to trigger Article 50:
“This will be defining moment for our whole country as we begin to forge a new relationship with Europe and a new role for ourselves in the world,” the prime minister said said.
“We will be a strong, self-governing, global Britain with control once again over our borders and our laws.
“And we will use this moment of opportunity to build a stronger economy and a fairer society so that we secure both the right deal for Britain abroad and a better deal for ordinary working people at home.” In reference to Nicola Sturgeon’s expressed plans fpr a fresh referendum on Scottish Independence before Britain leaves The EU, Theresa May also warned the SNP it was “not a moment to play politics or create uncertainty” .It is a moment to bring our country together, to honour the will of the British people, and to shape for them a better, brighter future, and a better Britain”.
The Scottish First Minister’s explosive announcement has again highlighted the potential complexity surrounding the departure from the EU, because of the uncertainty that accompanies any future decision Scotland may take in the future. However, the UK prime minister remains undeterred as ever, and is focused on the commencement of the official process for Brexit., and its completion in the next two years. Some commentators have suggested it will actually take more than two years for Brexit to happen, but it is all part of the speculative views given about Brexit.
The Prime Minister added: “It is a moment to bring our country together, to honour the will of the British people and to shape for them a better, brighter future and a better Britain”. Whether the departure from the EU will lead to a brighter future and a better Britain is yet to be seen, it is the ultimate goal on which the divisive EU question has been based. EU supporters maintain that Brexit will be a disaster for the UK, but Euro sceptics are equally adamant that Britain’s divorce from the EU will give Britain control over its own laws and its boarders, as well as open up a whole world of trade without any need for dependence on the EU.
