A new coronavirus scam attempting to fool parents into disclosing their bank details in order to obtain school meals advice.
West Yorkshire Police have alerted members of the public not to fall for a number of scam emails asking parents to send their bank details to the school in order to get free school meals. The email scam has been circulating in Hull, Leeds, and Bradford and expected to expand to other parts of the Uk. The scan falsely offers to help with ‘funding’ for parents whose children’s school is closed. It is also offering free dinners.
The proposal is a scam which is not expected to fool smart parents, but there are concerns that some parents may fall for it if they believe the offer is associated with their children’s school
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “The links are fake and vulnerable families may be giving their bank details online. Please please please do not share your personal details/bank details to anyone. Take care.”
