An Olympic 50P coin with an equivalent exchange rate of £3,000 is floating around in some people’s pockets unbeknown to them.
Over 100,000 of such coins are in circulation , after a botch with the old and new design.
An error is said to have mismatched the old and new design , producing between 50,000 and 200, 000 coins without a date on them . The coins were circulated before the error was noted.
The Olympic 50P coin was among 29 different designs released to celebrate the 2012 Olympic games , and is converting at the astonishing rate of 60 times its usual value .
A 1983 new 2 pence is also fetching up to £650. Between 50,000 and 200,000 coins were produced with no date and circulated before the error was noted. The prospect of the small change translating to a much increased rate of purchasing power will make many search their pockets and money tins carefully.
Some lucky finders would prefer to keep the rare coins as souvenirs, but most will be inquiring how they can benefit from the inflated worth of he coins.
